Playoff News:

Penguins march to victory in Detroit

When it came down to one game, winner take all, the Comeback Kids proved too much -- too much poise, too much determination, too much Max Talbot and Marc-Andre Fleury -- for the defending champion Detroit Red Wings.

The Penguins waltzed into hostile territory and walked away with a haul of engraved silver to bring back to Pittsburgh, capping an improbable run to the franchise's third Stanley Cup championship.

The Penguins beat the Red Wings, 2-1, in Game 7 last night at Joe Louis Arena. Crosby, Malkin & Co. would not be denied by this veteran Detroit team for a second straight year.

The great debate of Penguins' youth vs. Wings' experience may go on, but the kids have the hardware on their side now.

Penguins superstar Mario Lemieux didn't get to lift the Cup until his seventh season in the NHL, and now he gets to celebrate as an owner of a team laden with youngsters.

After carrying the Cup himself and watching his boss lift it, Sidney Crosby said, "It's great, he's done so much. He's at the top and this starts at the top. Mario, [general manager] Ray Shero, all the people that add to this."

This was "as big as it gets; the best day of my life," said Talbot, who scored the Penguins' two goals and matched his teammate, Ruslan Fedotenko, in that feat. Fedotenko, who did it for Tampa Bay in his first Cup win, was in tears after the victory.
